Job Purpose

Evaluate, analyze and advise on the financial effectiveness of the investments and initiatives across the whole bank.

Key Accountabilities

  1. For new investments:
    1. Assess the financial effectiveness of the upcoming investments & projects
    2. Review, validate & challenge the assumptions and projections in the financial models
    3. Identify the key financial metrics in the model that will materially impact the profitability of the projects, to be tracked post go-live
    4. Review & challenge the proposed project costs. Identify potential areas of cost saving
    5. Advise the Heads of Division & Investment Committee on financial benefits & cost of the investments with in-depth analysis to help the decision-making process
    6. Identify & highlight potential risks in the financial model that could materially impact the investment outcomes

Key Accountabilities (2)

  1. For ongoing investments:
    1. Monitor and report the financial performance (benefits & costs) of the ongoing projects on a timely basis
    2. Identify and explain the causes of variance vs. original financial models and business plan
    3. Identify & advise project leads of the potential cost saving & value realization opportunities
    4. Perform in-depth analysis on financial performance of specific investments upon requests from the Investment Committee
  2. Annual planning:
    1. Participate in the bank-wide annual planning process to come up with the spending plan for new & ongoing investments for the coming year
    2. Identify key areas of variance in bottom-up vs top-down plan and work with project leads to close the gap
  3. Other Responsibilities
    1. Review the current Investment appraisal policy and recommend improvements to strengthen governance/control and to streamline processes
    2. Implement automated solutions or build automated dashboard for investment tracking purposes

Success Profile - Qualification and Experiences

Having a bachelor's degree or higher in economic, finance or accounting. Prefer candidates with professional certificates (ACCA, CPA, CFA...) or currently in-progress

Having at least 5 years of experience in analyzing investment performance, or equivalent roles in Banking & Finance with good understanding of the Banking products

Practical knowledge in building & validating financial models. Familiar with the investment metrics NPV, IRR, ROI, Payback, etc.

Candidates with high data literacy will have advantages, i.e. practical experience working with SQL, Power BI, Python or R
Fluent English, both speaking & writing
